The short version
We keep as little as possible. No account, no password, no newsletter, no advertising tracker following you around.
What we store
From a bid: the link you submitted, the title and description of that page, the category you picked, and the amount. All of it is public on the board, which is the point. From a payment: an identifier from Stripe, and the e-mail address you paid with. We keep that e-mail for one purpose only: telling you when someone outbids you and pushes your listing down. It is never shown on the site, never sold, and never used for anything else. Every one of those e-mails carries a one-click unsubscribe, and unsubscribing does not affect your listing. Your name and card details stay with Stripe and never reach our servers. Stripe's own privacy policy covers that data. From a visit: a count of clicks per listing. We count the click, not the person.
What we measure, and how
We run our own analytics, and it is cookieless by design. We never store your IP address, and we set nothing on your device. To count unique visitors for a day, we turn your IP and browser into a scrambled code that also mixes in the date, so the code is different every day and can never be traced back to you or linked across days. For each visit we keep only coarse, non-identifying signals: which page, where you came from (the referring site and any campaign tag in the link), your approximate country and region, and the broad type of device, browser and operating system. We use this to understand what works and where our audience is. No advertising trackers, ever, and nothing is sold or shared.
Who else sees it
Stripe, for payments. Our hosting provider, to serve the pages. Nobody else. We do not sell or share personal data.
Your rights
Write to support@topofbook.com and we will remove your listing and the data attached to it. Note that removing a listing does not refund the bid, as set out in the Terms. If you are in the EU or the UK, you also have the rights the GDPR gives you: access, correction, deletion, and complaint to your national authority.
